of killing his mother is due in court this afternoon. police say that the 70-year-old dennis stanworth confessed to killing his 90-year-old mother in their home in week. he is a convicted killer first sentenced to death in 1966 for killing two teen girls. the sentence was changed to life. california briefly got rid of the death penalty in 1974. then he was released on parole in 1990. >>> the city of san jose is expanding its search for a new police chief. earlier this week officials interviewed three finalists but now the city manager wants more time to consider them and look at extra candidates. the current police chief chris moore plans to retire a week from today. >> the week long kicker controversy is over and the 49ers are sticking with david akers for tomorrow night's game against the green bay packers. the coach announced his decision yesterday. it was a vote of confidence to a kicker who is having the worst season of his 15 year career. the 49ers signed kicker billy kundiff last week. he will stay on the roster but probably won't play tomorrow night. hopefully everything will

says he plans to plead guilty to the crime. dennis stanworth made the statement during a court appearance yesterday before his public defender asked for a one- week delay. the new charges come after police say stanworth called them to tell him he had killed his 90-year-old mother at his vallejo home. stanworth has a violent past. he spent time on death row, after being convicted of kin two girls in 1966 and raping four women. however, his death sentence was commuted in 1972 after the state supreme court ruled capital punishment unconstitutional. he was paroled in 1990. >>> two car washes will be held in san jose this weekend to raise money for a family killed in an apartment fire. the four died december 29th when a fire destroyed their west san jose apartment. the car washes are scheduled to be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today and tomorrow at the agave restaurant on monterey road. family members are trying to raise the money to bury their family members in mexico. >>> police say men pride open a lock on a front entrance, during the overnight hours. they then took mail fro
